Wegner – just one good chair

In Copenhagen Designmuseum Denmark marks the centenary of Hans J. Wegner with the exhibition Hans J. Wegner – just one good chair

The exhibition highlights Wegner as one of the most prolific designers of the 20th Century.  It tells the story of his life and career and shows more than 150 of his major works, drawings, photos and models, exploring his working methods and the wide variety of his designs.

Contextualizing Wegner’s work and the great international success of Danish design in the 1950s, the exhibition includes furniture by the most significant post-war Danish and international designers, historical works from the museum’s permanent collection, as well as contemporary works by designers to whom Wegner’s furniture remains a source of inspiration.

Dansk Møbelkunst Gallery has loaned two pieces to the exhibition: A very early example of the Chinese chair (1944) in nut, leather and brass, made by Johannes Hansen, and a Bear chair in oak and fabric, designed 1968 and made by A. P. Stolen.

The exhibition continues until November 2nd 2014.
